Tomb of Carlo Marsuppini
Desiderio da Settignano (1429/32-64)
Monument to Carlo Marsuppini
The Tomb of Marsuppini, a scholar and chancellor of Florence, was Desiderio's only monumental work. It was celebrated for its decorative carving and the realism of Marsuppini's face. In the 19th century the monument was considered so important that the firm of Oronzio Lelli was commissioned to make three copies for collections in England, Scotland, and Ireland.
