"Flintlock Duelling Pistols in case, c.1810These pistols were 'proofed' (test-fired) at the Tower of London to guarantee their quality. They were awarded to Captain Thomas Davies of the Hackney Volunteer Riflemen by his men. Formed in 1803 and disbanded in 1814, the Hackney militia was raised during the Napoleonic Wars to defend the capital from French invasion.
