Your history goes so far back as to be mythology

The St Crispin Day speech and Marc Antony's funeral oration found in Shakespeare's plays have been generally agreed upon that those words were actually said in real life. While I'm not disagreeing with that statement... I am curious as to it's veracity as Shakespeare tended to write in iambic pentameter, which is something people rarely speak in.

On a slighter post script... Homer's works are in dactylic hexameter, which, while easy to compose in Greek, is difficult to recreate in English. This form was used by poets of the day so the oral traditions would be easier to recite in public.
