Living unchanged

Just a query and a thought...
It is very, very sad when a family of 4, 5, or even 6 has both parents unemployed and without savings. I do know that. It's tragic. It's also quite disappointing to know that the people graduating from college this year have less job opportunities in his/her chosen then when I graduated.
Here is my question: why is there not any mention of the middle class people that are doing well despite the recession? People that were on types of fixed incomes, paycheque-to-paycheque people who are not as affected. Couples without children.... It's like that entire demographic doesn't exist in the media. It's a bit annoying. It would be neat to see how those people had lived previously and how they are still surviving. Offering tips and suchlike. Just a thought.

To be honest I got lucky. I didn't stop looking for work until I found one. I've been at my job going on five years. Before then I was out of a job for over a year and the company I work for found my resume attractive out of the Lord knows how many there were on craigslist (that's how they found me). I was hired the same day of the interview and have been working for the company ever since. I am in school online and will be done with my undergrad in March. Then after a month or two off I'm going for my Masters.
